There's a new checkbox in the filter panel on Operations and Finance, sitting just to the left of the Search button: Skip Count.
It exists for one reason: to make slow searches finish faster.
Why your search is sometimes slow
Every time you search, TrakIT actually runs two queries against the database:
1. How many rows match? - this is what fills in the "1,482 Found" label and works out how many page numbers to draw at the bottom of the grid.
2. Give me this page - the 20 (or however many) rows you're actually looking at.
The second query is usually quick, because the database only has to find the first handful of matching rows and can stop there. The first one has no such shortcut: to count the matches, it has to visit every single one of them. On a broad search - a wide date range, no workflow selected, a filter on events or data fields - that counting pass can easily take longer than everything else on the page combined.
Tick "Skip Count" and TrakIT simply doesn't ask question 1. You get your results without waiting on a number you may not have needed.
What you give up
This is a genuine trade-off, so it's worth being clear about it:
You only get the first page. No total means no page count, so the pager shows a single page with no "next". Sorting and filtering still work normally - you just can't page through the results.
- The count becomes an estimate. The label reads "20+ Found" rather than "1,482 Found" - the `+` is TrakIT telling you there are at least this many and probably more. If fewer rows come back than fit on a page, you'll see a plain "12 Found", because in that case it really is the exact total.
- On Operations, Export is hidden. While the box is ticked. Export needs a real total to check your request against the export size limit, so untick the box, let the search finish, and Export comes back. (On Workflow Finance, Export runs its own query and is unaffected - it stays available either way.)
When to use it
Reach for it when you're looking for something specific and you've sorted so it's near the top - the newest jobs, the most recent bills, the highest value. You want the first page fast and the grand total is irrelevant.
Leave it off when you're measuring rather than looking — "how many jobs are still open in this workflow", anything you're about to Export, or any time you need to walk through several pages of results.
A good habit on a search that's crawling: tick the box, confirm you're actually looking at the right rows, then refine your filters and untick it. You'll usually find the narrower search is quick enough that you don't need the shortcut any more.
It remembers
Your choice is saved to your user profile, so it's still set the way you left it next time you open the page. Operations and Workflow Finance are remembered separately - you can leave it on for one and off for the other.
If you come back to a page and see "20+ Found" where you expected a real total, check the box in the filter panel — it's very likely still ticked from last time.
